DECEMBER 2009: New partnership. Comenius Preparatory Visit

The second week of December we travelled to Stuttgart (Germany) to meet up with other teachers from Poland, Latvia, Norway, Britain and Germany itself. The aim of this meeting was to prepare a project in which all of our respective students can work together, communicating between their schools, discussing job opportunities, entrepreneurship, and leadership around Europe.

It was a fantastic opportunity to expand our school´s network and make some great contacts with like-minded teachers.

DECEMBER 2009:Evaluation by students

It's not an easy task, not for them nor for us. However being able to evaluate other people work means they are aware of it, conscious. Their opinion can help us improve our work, and broaden their knowledge at the same time.

SEPTEMBER 2009: Students working in WKTO project

A great part of our youth's future lies in their openings to the outside world, to new ideas, to foreign cultures; this we can achieve by creating partnership links, exchanges of opinion, comparison of ideas and activities based on collaborative tasks.
It is with this ideas in mind that that we have organised this project, to generate an ongoing relationship between language-learners from different cultures within the framework of a VIRTUAL CLASS. By operating in a real context, pupils understand the neccesity of working with foreign languages, they see that it is possible to work together and to learn how to write a professional-style report.
This project is a CLIL project (Content and Language Integrated Learning) related to economics as the students will learn how to organize an international survey. It´s also related to civic instruction and I.C.T (information and communication technologies) as we are going to talk about sustainable development and  the students will practice working collaboratively using Virtual Learning Environments.

PROJECT WKTO-AN11 : This civic instruction and economics program (which is in English) is aimed at students between the ages of 16 and 20 from high schools and colleges of further education who are not native English speakers.
There are different steps to work on which are explained in this page http://www.ac-grenoble.fr/wkto/2009_2010_SCHOOLYEAR/CADRES.htm

JUNE 2009: WKTO project

A great part of our every day life consists of communication. We talk to each other in the street, by phone, via internet. Development and progress of new technologies simplify our way of communication. We almost never send letters to each other, we use e-mail. For example, nowadays there is a great variety of sites and training programs aimed to bring people from different places of the world together. So we have joined one of these programs and have already started working on it. This project has been organized, to generate an ongoing relationship between language learners from different cultures within the framework of a VIRTUAL CLASS. By operating in a real context, pupils understand the need for working with foreign languages, they see that it is possible to work together and to learn how to write a professional-style report and how to organize an international survey. The system includes a number of steps you have to follow. The first ones require you to present yourself and the school you are studying at. The step we are doing now consists of finding information about the water system of our region. Once we are ready we will post it on the project page . We are all very interested in the program and looking forward to seeing the result of our work.

JUNE 2009: INNOBASQUE: Intraemprendizaje workshop.

Entrepreneurship has always been an important goal to achieve, but what about intrapreneurship?
We looked for its definition and found out that "Intrapreneurship is the practice of using entrepreneurial skills without taking on the risks or accountability associated with entrepreneurial activities. It is practiced by employees within an established organization using a business model. Employees, perhaps engaged in a special project within a larger firm are supposed to behave as entrepreneurs, even though they have the resources and capabilities of the larger firm to draw upon. Capturing the dynamic nature of entrepreneurial management (trying things until successful, learning from failures, attempting to conserve resources, etc.) adds to the potential of an otherwise static organizations without exposing those employees or self employed people to the risks or accountability normally associated with entrepreneurial failure." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intrapreneurship

It's also very well explained in the following powerpoint
But we decided to learn more about it by joining the intrapreneurship workshop organised by innobasque http://ekintzailetza-aurreratua.innobasque.wikispaces.net/file/view/Jornadas%20Intraemprendizaje%20Innobasque.pdf

JUNE 2009: Our wiki

JUNE 2009: INNOTK workshop

We took part in a workshop organised by Tknika. You can read the programme below. It was an interesting event where we had the chance to listen to experts in the area of education talking about new point of views and the application of new methodologies. The discussion afterwards was even more interesting, because theory is fine but how do you put it into practice, how do you evaluate your students efforts, and how do you motivate them?

INNOVATING LEARNING

MAY 2009: Credograf. University of Malmö.Sweden

Helsinborg Municipalitie
After taking part in the research study in San Sebastian, we went to Sweden. We took part as consultants in the application of the Credograf in Helsingborg municipalitie, There, they are using the Credograf method to help young unemployed people to get started in the labour market. We used this method, working with the person in charge of the unemployed who´s job it is to supervise the youth education. After that we worked with four people chosen by the superviser with the Credograf. The personalities of these four people were very different, in fact they where chosen specifically to see how it works on different kinds of people.

APRIL 2009: Credograf

Based on the experience of the virtual firm we believe and want to develop an approach to students aimed at creating an effective ground for development at work. This is how we get in contact with the Credograf method.
In April IES Zubiri-Manteo hosted the visit of Arne Andersson and Professor Per Sigud Agrell to San Sebastian. They showed us the method and we had the chance to test it ourselves, taking part as participants in the pre-study with Estia (France) and Malmö University (Sweden). The result of the pre-study is shown in the document "Head of bridge".

MARCH 2009: Virtual firm fair in Austria

This was the first time Zubiri Manteo attended an event like this abroad. The event was held in Salsburg and 9 of our students travelled with 2 of our teachers to this exciting fair. Our students had the opportunity to deal with foreign companies and put their theoretical knowledge into practice at international level.

We made lots of contacts with different colleges, which gave us the opportunity to create  long term relationships which will give us the chance to continue working together.

JANUARY 2009: Virtual Firm and the implementation of the Agenda

ZUBIRILET SAS: " Hands on training"

A few years ago IES Zubiri-Manteo joined the SEFED / EUROPEN (Business Simulation for Education) program. There are more than eight thousand virtual firms belonging to the program.

Our firm ZUBIRILET SAS belongs to the SEFED virtual firm network, where students work in trade relations, each company designing the products they are selling, buying materials and hiring the necessary services to produce them.

This means that students have to organize their business, and manage business relationships arising from the activity with other firms, as if it were a real company (business and administration processes, documentation, communication, filing etc.)

Relations between firms are carried out using new technologies, especially though the Internet and email. The classroom is a real office which is divided into the following departments; Front Desk, Marketing, Sales, Purchasing, Accounting and Human Resources. Throughout the course, students rotate between different departments, by means of undertaking their correponding office task, to widen their theoretical and practical knowledge.

DECEMBER 2008: AGENDA seminar

Innovation Agenda Seminar

We took part in the Agenda Seminar and decided to do our Innovation Agenda in the Virtual firm.
Innovation Agenda
This is a program promoted by the Industry, Commerce and Tourism Department of the Basque Country and SPRY that provides Basque SMEs, advancing along the path of innovation. Through a reflective process, the management team and its members define its Innovation Agenda.
Definition of innovation
Innovation is to transform knowledge into economic and social outcomes, improve the situation of a company in the market. The innovation involves a change, a deep transformation in the way of doing and thinking about a task. You can innovate in all areas of business: product / service, process, organization and market.
How can you innovate?
“To innovate” means you must want to do it, learn and work in different ways. It involves a change of attitude, rethinking the way you work, lead and how you relate to others. Innovation isn’t just a one off effort; it requires a sustained commitment over time.

NOVEMBER 2008: Course of Moodle

IES Zubiri-Manteo organized a course of Moodle for teachers. It was a huge success. Our team members were very pleased with it. Our computer department are implementing it and it will be available by 2010.

OCTOBER 2008: International Net

Promote entrepreneurial culture in Gipuzkoa.

Given the implementation of existing businesses in the Basque territory and the development of new projects in foreign markets, it is necessary to know both the legislation and the dynamics of these markets. The students´ ability to the analysis these global markets, deal with different administrations around the world, exchange information, and implement the project involves the knowledge of foreign languages as a basic tool.

We believe that IES ZUBIRI MANTEO achieves these aims through its involvement in the multilingual project. Given the size of the target market, the students have to work in coordination with students and administrations of other countries. By working in this way, our goal is not only to train, but to create skilled and motivated students, who are open minded and part of modern society.

This involves:

• Knowledge development

• Sharing business knowledge across countries

• Encouraging students´ initiative

• Adaptation to an ever changing environment

• Putting ideas into action

Our training centre encourages and promotes the values of corporate culture, producing students who add value to companies.

This requires creating a worldwide network of vocational and technical colleges to develop the exchange of information and experiences among teachers. This is done through videoconferencing, visiting vocational and technical colleges, and attending international conferences, courses and seminars.

SEPTEMBER 2008: Project idea

IES ZUBIRI MANTEO is a college open to the business world, in relationship with companies for training and recruitment. ("Dispositivo de valoración de competencias")
Our School provides technical and human resource training, respecting the environment, aiming to achieve successful integration into society. Our courses allow the students gain access to university, the labour market or to start their own business.
